Why we built this

Most people just want to know one thing: what will I actually take home? The existing answers are either buried on gov.uk or served by calculators that look and feel a decade old. Take Home Tax is our attempt to do it properly — instant results, a clear breakdown of where every pound goes, and pages built for the way people really search: by profession, by band, and by salary.

How we keep it accurate

The whole site is powered by a single, unit-tested tax engine that reads its rates from one config file per tax year. When HMRC or the devolved governments update the numbers each April, we update that one file and the entire site follows. Our methodology page shows every rule and simplification we apply, with links to the official sources.

Independence

Take Home Tax is an independent project and is not affiliated with HMRC, the NHS, or any government body. We may earn a commission from some links to relevant financial products, which helps keep the calculators free — this never affects the figures we show or the guidance we give.

Privacy by design

Every calculation runs entirely in your browser. We never see or store your salary or any figures you enter. See our privacy policy for details.
